Jaw and headache (TMJ)
If you suffer a lot with headaches or migraines, or with neck and shoulder pain, then we may be able to help you put an end to them.
These problems are among symptoms reported by people whose jaw joint is misaligned. Other symptoms can include waking up with a stiff or tender jaw, pain or discomfort at the side of the face by the ears, clicking and popping of the jaw joints and pain behind the eyes.
The jaw joint, which is also known as the temporo-manidibular joint or TMJ for short, connects our lower jaw and skull. It allows you to open and close your mouth, and to chew.
TMJ disorders are most commonly caused by having an incorrect bite. We can help by examining your bite, your jaw joint and the surrounding areas. If there is a problem, we can advise you about your treatment options. These can include a special mouthguard to wear at night to prevent jaw clenching or tooth grinding, or making adjustments to the way your teeth meet and work together.
These treatments are often surprisingly affordable, and can make a big difference to your well-being.
